CFA Society of New Mexico CFA® Scholarship Program

The CFA Society of New Mexico has 10 scholarships to award annually to candidates paying for the program out-of-pocket. The scholarships may be used for Levels I, II and III and provide for a substantial reduction in examination registration fees, so that candidates pay just $225. In addition, the program enrollment fee is waived for candidates entering the program. We are currently in the process of accepting applications for the December 2010 examination; if you are interested in applying for a scholarship, please complete the scholarship application and verification forms found to the right.

This scholarship applies to the December 2010 exam only

(Information Regarding Scholarships for the June 2011 Exam will be available in the fall of 2010)

Applications and Scholarship Verification Forms must be received by the CFA Society of New Mexico by August 15th, 2010. This will enable the Society to review the applications and forward the paperwork for scholarships awarded to the CFA Institute by their September 1st, 2010 deadline. Completed forms should be returned to:

Johnathan Burnham, CFA
Membership Chair, CFA Society of New Mexico
2300 North Ridgetop Road
Santa Fe, NM 87506

Who is eligible for a society scholarship?

All CFA candidates for all levels that are associated with the CFA Society of New Mexico are eligible to apply using the attached application and verification form. If you are currently a student at the University of New Mexico, you may instead be eligible for a scholarship under the CFA Institute Scholarship Program for college students.  For more information, please contact Dr. Gautam Vora.

Who is NOT eligible for a society scholarship?

Scholarships cannot be awarded to the immediate family members of our society’s officers, directors, or employees. Scholarship applications received by the New Mexico office after the August 15, 2010 deadline will not be considered.

What does the scholarship cost?

CFA Institute waives the enrollment fee and discounts the registration fee; scholarship recipients pay only $225.00. This is a non-refundable fee. If you have already enrolled and registered for the current exam offering, you may request a refund in the appropriate section of the Scholarship Verification Form.

What does the scholarship cover?

Society scholarships are valid for the Registration and Enrollment fees for any level of the CFA exam: Level I, II or III. The full curriculum and one sample exam is included in the registration fee.

How does my society select the scholarship candidates?

The New Mexico Society uses the CFA Institute scholarship application that is attached. The Society does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender, or nationality.

After the scholarship candidates have been selected, how does the society proceed?

  • The New Mexico Society will contact each candidate who has been awarded a scholarship by September 1, 2010.
  • The New Mexico Society will fax the completed Verification Forms to the CFA Institute Scholarship Office at: 434-951-5290, Attn: Scholarships by September 1st.

If a society scholarship candidate has already registered and enrolled for the CFA exam, does he/she get a refund?

If the New Mexico Society chooses a candidate who has already enrolled for the December 2010 CFA exam, the CFA Institute will refund his/her money less the $225.00 scholarship fee.
