Speaker Bio: Richard G. Brody, PhD, CPA, CFE, CFF, FCPA, is the Rutledge Professor of Accounting in the Anderson School of Management at the University of New Mexico. He earned his Ph.D. in Accounting from Arizona State University. He is an Associate Director for UNM's Center for Information Assurance Research and Education and serves on the Board of Advisors for Fraud Magazine, the monthly publication of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Professor Brody's research addresses issues related to forensic accounting, auditing and corporate governance. Recent research has focused on issues such as corporate fraud, identity theft and the impact of corporate governance structure on auditor judgment.

 

Topic Description: Professor Brody will discuss fraud, the anatomy of fraudsters, detection and prevention of fraud. Fraud plagues all organizations:  business - corporate and non-corporate, non-profit, governmental and autonomous agencies of governments. As fraud cannot be eliminated, one must learn to manage it. He will discuss the profile of fraudsters and the conditions which enable fraud with reference to the Fraud Triangle. He will outline the methods for detection and prevention.
